Day 1-2: San Jose

Spend your first day settling into Costa Rica's capital before meeting your group leader and travelling companions on day two whereupon you'll embark on a guided tour of all the main sights, including: the National Museum, INBio Park and the volcanic coffee plantations of the Doka Estate. These first two days in Costa Rica present the perfect introduction to both the wildlife and the landscapes of one of the world's most beautiful natural areas. INBio Park alone offers an incredible insight into a wide range of ecosystems including a database which contains collection records relating to over 3 million insects! Accommodation: 2 hotel nights | Meals: Breakfast included

Day 3-4: Tortuguero National Park

Journey through the canals of Tortuguero National Park until you finally reach your tranquil riverbank lodge deep in the heart of the Caribbean rainforest. The next couple of days will be spent exploring where you'll get to listen to the cries of howler monkeys and colourful toucans as well as finding out more about the nesting grounds of the green, hawksbill and giant leatherback turtles. Aside from the noisy neighbours and shuffling turtles Tortuguero is also home to almost all of Costa Rica's endangered animals, including manatees, jaguars, ocelots and some 300 species of bird. Note: If you're visiting during the end of the summer through to October please remember to pack dark clothing as well as keeping flash photography down to a minimum as bright colours and lights can distract nesting green turtles. If in doubt, check with your guide. Accommodation: 2 nights in jungle lodge with meals included

Day 5-6: Sarapiqui

Travel by boat via wildlife-filled forests and agricultural landscapes en-route to Sarapiqui one of the best birdwatching habitats in the whole of Central America. Your time spent on the banks of the Puerto Viejo River is yours to do with as you wish and there are plenty of optional activities, such as river-rafting, boat trips and jungle hikes, to help you make the most of your day. As with all activities, the most stringent safety checks have been put in place and, as such, optional river-rafting has been deemed as an activity for the over 12s. An excellent alternative for young families can be found in an optional boat trip where you'll venture along the Pacuare River in search of exotic animals peering out from within the abundant lush foliage. Accommodation: 2 hotel nights | Meals: 2 Breakfasts and 1 lunch included

Day 7-8: Arenal Volcano National Park

The chance to wander through the cloud forests and volcanic slopes of Arenal Volcano National Park is quite an exceptional experience and if you're looking for hot springs, waterfalls and the occasional flash of a hummingbird, then the next two days will no doubt stay with you for years to come. Arenal is a classic conical-shaped volcano that towers over 5000ft above the fertile countryside and presents an excellent opportunity for young volcanologists to get up close to an active example that will prove to be much more exciting than any text book. Further optional activities can be undertaken in the afternoon of day 8 with the chance to visit Cano Negro wildlife refuge always proving popular with families. Accommodation: 2 hotel nights | Meals: Breakfast included

Day 9-10: Monteverde National Park

Skirt over the windsurfer-topped waters of Arenal Lake ahead of making the morning ascent through the cloud forests and coffee plantations up the side of Monteverde de Santa Elena. This is an incredibly rich and fertile landscape, full of mammals, birds and amphibians, and your rainforest canopy walk presents a whole new perspective on what you've previously encountered on the ground. There are also a number of additional activities to get you outdoors and active with horse riding, orchid farm visits and a white-knuckle canopy zip-wire all providing some more great memories of your time in Costa Rica. Accommodation: 2 hotel nights | Meals: Breakfasts included

Day 11-13: Manuel Antonio National Park

Head south from Monteverde on the Pan-American Highway, following mangroves, plantations and windswept beaches, until you reach Quepos and the gateway to Manuel Antonio National Park. The next 3 days allow you to really investigate this stretch of the Pacific with guided walks and plenty of free time. Even though Manuel Antonio National Park is the smallest of Costa Rica's national parks it's by no means lacking in the natural beauty stakes and, with a broad range of white sand beaches leading down from lush green forest-covered mountain slopes, it will come as no surprise to learn that it's considered to hold some of the most impressive landscapes on the planet. Manuel Antonio is also renowned for its hugely diverse range of wildlife with numerous species of: sloth, monkey, iguana and bird calling the boundaries their home. Accommodation: 3 hotel nights | Meals: Breakfasts included

Day 14-15: San Jose

Guided rainforest walks, Pacific highway views and the agricultural communities of Orotina and Atenas help you to retrace your steps northwards until finally your tour ends amongst the familiar colonial grandeur of Costa Rica's capital, San Jose. As there are no activities planned for your last day in San Jose, you're free to check out of your accommodation at any time after breakfast. If you're still hankering for some sightseeing or last-minute souvenir hunting then luggage storage is available. Accommodation: 1 hotel night | Meals: Breakfast included
