Day 1: Cancun, Chichen Itza & Merida Head on out of Cancun to begin your journey of adventure and discovery with a visit to Chichen Itza, one of the best preserved of all the archaeological sites in Mexico and an incredible start to your Mexican odyssey. View El Castillo pyramid and glimpse into the Mayan past as you learn about the Great Ball Court and its bloody history. Next you'll make your way to the beautiful city of Merida, the capital of the Yucatan. Explore the many shops and museums of this charming city, eat local Yucatecan food such as Cochinita Pibil (marinated pork) and hang out in the Zocalo (Main Square). Head out and mingle with descendants of the Maya whose culture is laced with Spanish influence. Accommodation: Hotel or guesthouse included

Day 2: Uxmal & Campeche Travel to the UNESCO ruins of Uxmal for an included visit where intricately carved temple facades pay homage to Chac, the Mayan rain god. The Uxmal archaeological site is a wonderful balance of jungle and wide open spaces and an absolute gem, with fewer travellers than other ruins in Mexico. Drive on to the city of Campeche, the only coastal walled city in the New World, where you can explore the remnants of its colourful past. Why not start your visit with a walk along the Malecon, a path along the sea facing the sparkling Gulf of Mexico? On your walk you'll find rusty cannons which once defended the city, see some of the old colonial buildings and have the opportunity to try one of Campeche's many seafood specialities caught directly from the surrounding seas. Accommodation: Hotel or guesthouse included

Day 3: Chiapas Jungle gives way to the lush mountain highlands of Chiapas, passing quaint Indian villages and bountiful coffee plantations en route. You'll cover a lot of ground today but are rewarded with views of a changing landscape which paints a richer picture of Mexico. Chiapas is a pretty compact state that packs plenty in for the interested traveller; from pristine lakes, rivers and national parks, to fascinating and friendly Mexican pueblos. Accommodation: Hotel or guesthouse included

Day 4-6: Agua Azul & San Cristobal de las Casas This morning you'll enjoy a visit to the incredible Agua Azul waterfalls. The Cascadas de Agua Azul (Spanish for "Blue Water Waterfall") are found in the middle of the Chiapas rainforest, and are made up of mineral-filled turquoise falls following one after another in the Cascadas de Agua Azul Natural Park. Next, head for San Cristobal, a town which deceives the senses. At first glance, it looks like a colonial settlement but on closer inspection it reveals itself as distinctly indigenous. The traditional costumes and ancient dialects of the local Maya collide in a mosaic of colour and sound. There is plenty to fill your time here including The Maya Medicine Museum, Laguna Miramar (a must see) or shop for local produce at the Mercado Municipal which is one of the biggest markets in San Cristobal. It is here the locals shop for their fruit, meat, vegetables, chillies and medicinal plants so makes for interesting people viewing, colourful photos and excellent bargains. Accommodation: Hotel or guesthouse included

Day 7-8: Palenque Continue down the ancient Mayan trade route to the ruins of Palenque, the temples lost in the jungle for hundreds of years, to marvel at the magnificent pyramid known as the Temple of the Inscriptions. Take a guided jungle tour to learn about this unique ecosystem, its rare plant life, tropical birds and animals. After such an adventurous day, relax and cool off in the inviting waters of Misol Ha waterfall. Accommodation: Hotel or guesthouse included

Day 9: Bacalar Cross the Yucatan peninsula for a night on the shores of the beautiful 'Lagoon of Seven Colours' at Bacalar. Enjoy an included scenic cruise to take in the views, before a refreshing swim in the Cenote Azul (blue pool). Laguna Bacalar is one of the most unique freshwater lakes on earth, with its varying shades of turquoise and blue. Accommodation: Hotel or guesthouse included

Day 10-11: Tulum & Caribbean Coast/Playa del Carmen En route to Playa del Carmen, explore the coastal ruins of Tulum, the only Mayan city built along the sea before continuing to the idyllic beach resort of Playa del Carmen. Enjoy some downtime relaxing on miles of palm fringed sugar white beaches. Join in a scuba lesson for a closer look at this underwater paradise, or head off in search of hidden underground cenotes. The warm coastal breezes make for hot days and even hotter nights dancing at the many bars and beach clubs on offer. For something a bit more relaxing, find a quiet bar and watch a fire dance show or just enjoy a refreshing drink with your new friends. Accommodation: Hotel or guesthouse included

Day 12: Playa del Carmen & Cancun After a final day enjoying yourself, relaxing and last minute shopping or people-watching on the Mayan Riviera, say adios to your new amigos as you arrive in Cancun at the end of your tour. This tour ends at our gateway hotel at approximately 17:00 hrs. We can book you post-tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00 hrs unless you are prepared to take your own private transport from Playa del Carmen at an earlier hour.
