Along the way you'll be travelling through some of America's cultural and historical hotspots to learn about this fascinating part of the world. If all that isn't enough, as you make your way from New York City to New Orleans you'll witness some amazing scenery as you prepare yourself for your next culinary pit stop.

Day 1: New York Area & Philadelphia New York City is a food lover's paradise, with delicious restaurants and street stalls around every corner, why not spend a few days here before the tour starts to really get to the heart of this culinary city and see the iconic sights? Before you know it you're making your way down to Philadelphia, the home of the delicious Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich, we hear Tony Luke's is the best in town. If you're a movie fan then you can follow in the footsteps of Sylvester Stallone, up the 'Rocky' steps, for that all important photo and you'll want to be working off that sandwich you had earlier too. Day 2-3: Washington DC This historical city has something for everyone, from the impressive Smithsonian Museum to the White House and tons of trendy bars just waiting for you to explore. Why not rent a bike and see the city from the comfort of your saddle? Now it wouldn't be a foodie tour without a stop at Ben's Chili Bowl, which is a landmark restaurant in the city - you'll be hard pushed to find a local who hasn't eaten there. Even the President himself is a regular! Finish your time in Washington DC with a trip to Georgetown to see the beautiful architecture and to experience the famous nightlife. Day 4: Raleigh State capital of North Carolina, Raleigh is known as the 'City of Oaks' thanks to the trees that line the streets through the heart of the city. If you're a fan of hot dogs, then you might want to visit 'The Roast Grill' which has been said to serve 'the best darned Hot Dogs on the planet'! Afterwards, walk off that 'dog with a stroll down the Neuse River Trail, a scenic trail with loads of wildlife viewing opportunities. Accommodation: Budget Lodging included


Day 5: Charleston The oldest city in South Carolina, this places just oozes character and what better way to experience it than with an optional visit to an Antebellum Mansion and an authentic Plantation? Stroll along the coast and take photos of the Morris Island Lighthouse that stands several hundred feet offshore or jump aboard an optional Charleston water taxi, where you could spot some interesting wildlife. Experience the ultimate taste of the south with a Charleston Nasty Biscuit; a chicken biscuit (which is actually more like a scone) covered in gravy. Sounds gross, right? But, it's totally delicious and a favourite with the locals. Accommodation: Budget Lodging included


Day 6-7: Savannah Pay a visit to the hauntingly beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery, a place which has captured the imaginations of filmmakers and poets alike. Savannah is rich in culture and heritage and a stroll down River Street with its boutique shops, galleries and pubs is a great introduction to this side of the city. Get your music fix in the Bay Street Blues Bar and finish your day off at either the 'Old Pink House' for the best shrimps and grits around or Angels BBQ for the Voodoo Juice challenge - 'Victory today, tomorrow hell to pay'. Day 8: Atlanta Known as the New York of the South, this buzzing metropolis is home to Gladys Knight's famous Chicken and Waffles restaurant. If you're feeling a little thirsty why not head to the World of Coca-Cola where you can sample over 100 different flavours of everyone's favourite beverage? Accommodation: Budget Lodging included


Day 9-10: Birmingham & New Orleans Whilst in the 'Heart of Dixie' you can visit Birmingham's Civil Rights Institute and listen to some of the best blues and country tunes around. Visit 'Little Donkey', a fab Mexican restaurant where the corn tortillas are freshly made in-house and the tacos are out of this world. End the tour in the jazz-tastic city of New Orleans where you can party till the sun comes up on the world famous Bourbon Street. Jazz music is literally flowing out of every bar you come across but, before you head home be sure to sample some gumbo and jambalaya, it's southern cuisine at its best. This tour ends at approximately 17:00 hrs. We can book you post-tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 22:00 hrs.

BLT Accommodation

We use a combination of hostels, hotels and cabins on the Trek vs Food BLT. Most cabins are multi-share rooms sleeping 4 to 6 people with shared facilities and hostel nights are arranged on a single sex multi-share dorm basis, subject to availability. Where possible we will keep the group together and try to accommodate couples; however twin rooms cannot be guaranteed. A sleeping bag is not required on this trip.
